World Down Syndrome Day 2018   #WDSD18

World Down Syndrome Day 2018

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), observed on 21 March every year, is a global awareness day advocating for the rights, inclusion and well-being of individuals with Down syndrome/Trisomy 21. WDSD has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. You can find many ways to celebrate including giving a favorite book written by or about individuals with DS to your school or local library, sharing on social media, talking to a school, community group or employer about making it a group celebration, and so much more. Many local, national and international organizations offer many ways you can join in celebrating individuals who #rock21.

Come out to one of 7 locations in East Texas to benefit the East Texas Down Syndrome Group. All locations listed on our flyer will be giving back to ETDSG all day on 3/21 for #WDSD18 so you can go for lunch or dinner. *Make sure to mention you are eating for their Give Back to ETDSG for World Down Syndrome Day so a portion of your meal purchase proceeds will be donated to ETDSG. It's a big contribution to our families so please share with your East Texas family and friends to enjoy a meal out and also give back to the ETDSG.

*DON'T FORGET*
Wear your rockin' socks ALL MARCH 21ST! Why??? Check out the "Lots of Socks" promotion for WDSD that was started by Down Syndrome International and has grown to "rock your socks" and other ways too. DSI encourages everyone to wear "brightly coloured socks, long socks, printed socks, 1 sock… even 3 socks for 3 chromosomes. If you do not normally wear socks, then wear them. And why stop at socks? Wear our #LotsOfSocks t-shirts, WDSD t-shirts and other brightly coloured clothing.

The choice is yours, but we ask you to join us wearing something people will ask you about so that you can tell them all about WDSD. It is easy to do. So whether you are at home, nursery, school, college, university, work, play, travel, holiday or anywhere, join in!"

It's a simple, but important way to join the world celebration and share how you feel about someone you know with DS or facts about DS to dispell misconceptions.
